Maths this week: adding quickly and finding the inverse to check your answers.

This week we will be working on how quickly you can add up and we will look at some strategies to help you.
For example,
6+3+4+7
To work this out really quickly, one strategy you could use is to look for number bonds to 10 first. 6+4=10 and 7+3=10

9+5+2+4
a strategy here might be to use your knowledge of doubling. 5+4 is 9. Then you can add the other 9. Finally, add the 2.

If you know any other strategies then please let me know.

Inverse calculations will help you to check your answers in daily maths lessons and in tests. To use an easy example, 60+40=100
so we also know that:
40+60=100
100-40=60
100-60=40

If you have other quick strategies then please let me know.
